THE GOSPEL OF DOLLY, featuring the Pink Champagne Orchestra and the 30-voice Train To Kill Gospel Choir, brings gospel music into the 21st century and also includes Our Lady J originals and newly crafted covers of the music of Nine Inch Nails, Alanis Morrisette and more. Join the Church of Our Lady J on Friday, December 14 at 9:30 p.m. Tickets are $20.00.
Jonnah Speidel was born in Chambersburg, PA., and at the age of eight she (formerly he) moved to a farm where she lived (killing chickens and castrating bulls) until leaving for the prestigious Interlochen Arts Academy in 1994 at the age of 16. Graduating in 1996, Jonnah moved to Dallas to attend SMU. After leaving SMU, Jonnah worked as music director for the School of Dance at the University of Oklahoma. In the summer of 2000, Jonnah moved to New York City and immediately found work as accompanist for dance schools and companies (NYU, Alvin Ailey, Mark Morris Dance Group, American Ballet Theatre). Jonnah then started moonlighting as a musical director for many off and off-off Broadway shows until she found a creative outlet as a 'downtown' musical director, working with such creative folks as Scotty the Blue Bunny, Shequida and Armen Ra, as well as some of Broadway's bad kids, including Natalie Joy Johnson, John Hill and, most recently, Justin Bond. Some of the New York productions Jonnah has worked on include Fame on 42nd Street and How To Save The World And Find True Love in 90 Minutes, as well as the national tours of The Music Man and Miss Saigon. In 2004, Jonnah became the accompanist for the NYC Gay Men's Chorus, and also started teaching music for Rosie's Broadway Kids, Rosie O'Donnell's Musical Theatre Education Program dedicated to providing quality instruction in music and dance to New York City public school kids. Jonnah's transition - and transition into Our Lady J - began shortly after. Our Lady J's first concert as a soloist was in December 2006 at Ars Nova. She began performing regularly at The Zipper in July 2007. THE GOSPEL OF DOLLY is J's third concert at The Zipper, having also performed in such venues as Alice Tulley Hall, Carnegie Hall, Feinstein's at the Regency, Makor (92nd Street Y), Radio City Music Hall and Town Hall.
