DJ Francisco Guerra

My journey began when I saw the movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind. As a child I was completely overcome by the concept of the Sun blasting from the sky and singing to me. This Earth shattering notion has stayed with me and it has put its imprint on me at the age of four.
Interestingly, it wasn't until recently that I reconnected with and understood the phenomenon of sound blasting from the sky - pleasantly - allowing colors and lights to sing back to me on a dance floor. I've always communicated with people in the past about how I can recognize colors through key signatures and they always came back with "have another pill, sweetie". But I never had to alter my mind to enjoy the sights of sound. As I connect more with my synesthesia, music, podcasting, and remixing music become pure art and pleasure.
My musical performance journey began at the age of 12 when I taught myself to read music and play piano. I was admitted into the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts. I went through intensive ear training, advanced musical theory, and performed in state-wide jazz competitions in a small and large jazz ensemble. Even though I've always been a fan of the club scene I really only started taking music mixing/blending seriously in December 2006. I bought my first Denon CDJs, a Pioneer mixer, and got myself a job as a bar DJ once a month in Portland, Oregon. 6 months later I was DJing the largest dancefloor in Maine at the annual Southern Maine Pride Pier Dance. Soon after in June 2007 I started my website and to this day have received over 100,000 hits and up to 40,000 podcast downloads through various channels.
Music is viral. I'm in it for the journey. I would love the opportunity to take you with me.

Always the social butterfly is Mister Guerra. We've been to three different countries together, one I got arrested in (sort of), but he knows somebody everywhere but border patrol. In Amsterdam it's "hey Paco!," in London "it's Sir DJ Francisco, does the Queen know?" Oh, the Queen knows!
So now I can't even go on the internet or to a pool for that matter without somebody knowing Paco. I'm not complaining, mind you. It's never been a boring ride and I know I'll know you forever. We've shared a lot of music together, squealed posed to Duran Duran while driving, entertained "the masses" at Bear Weekend in Guerneville with the B-52's and Deee-Lite. I know that music is your passion and in your heart because we've shared that, and now you're sharing it with the world. You're truly a dynamic personality and a great and generous friend.
Seems everybody else sees it too! We the listeners and voters have witnessed the beginning, we're gonna see your names in parenthesis (DJ Andy Ajar's "Don't Refill Paula's Prescription" Mix) and (Paco's "Britney Needs More Fanta" Mix) on the backs of CD cases (what are those?) in no time.
I can't wait to see you lucky stars shine! You are America's Next Top Model(s) Spinners!
Congratulations to you both,
See you in Orlando! smilies/grin.gif smilies/cool.gif smilies/tongue.gif

I just wanted to let you know that it has been such an honor being in this contest with you. You and Andy have so many years of experience and deserve to win this thing. This was my first time EVER putting myself out there. I have learned so much from you all. I never imagined that I would make it this far along with you guys. Thank you so much for sharing this experience with me. I have already won in so many more ways than just this contest. I do hope that you or Andy make it to the top two. If I don't make it this year. I will be ready to win this thing next year. Good Luck!! DJ Figious

Way to go on your set this week. I am already picking out my bathing suit to go see you and Dj Andy Ajar spinning @ the pool. Hands down you two are the biggest talents on here and true "dj's" in every aspect. Hopefully the other listeners can tell the difference between true djs and computer made sets. See you in Orlando.

After throwing down The Set Of The Weekend at B(e)arcelona last weekend, it's no surprise to see you in the Top 4. Energetic, kinetic, rhythmic, loaded with familiar songs nestled in with songs that haven't become better known yet (but should), the uplifting spirit (and mad skills) you have brought to this contest week after week has been a serious treat to listen to. But now, after watching you do it live last weekend, having just a good time in the booth as the people on the dancefloor, and keeping more people on the dancefloor at 5am (to give you a well-earned round of applause), that's why you deserve to make the Final Two!!! Everyone I talked to last weekend said your set was the highlight...now Orlando needs to see it too!

I'm listening to this set for the second time today...it's that tight!

You. Go. Paco. smilies/grin.gif

It was great to get to hear an extra 20 minutes of your set, even if it was last weeks. This weeks was just as amazing.

G.I.R.L can do no wrong by selecting you as one of the top 2 in this competition, you will surely amaze and entertain anyone that attends gay days.

There are many aspects of Paco's mixes that makes them so unique and outstanding. His approach to the music is emotional, but intellectual too: there's both feeling and logic to the way he orders the things he chooses. He is like a composer in his ability to creates a complete picture. He's an artist in the manner in which he takes music performed by others and creates his own, very personal work with them. To me, it goes deeper than just being incredibly fun and danceable - and it certainly all that!! Thanks, Paco. Don

In person Paco is taller than you'd expect and has one of the deepest, most beautiful speaking voices you've ever heard. And his smile will make your naughty parts tingle. Plus in his profile photo he kind of looks like Joe Orton. So that's nice.

Oh, and he seems to have a natural gift for this crazy DJ stuff the kids are doing these days. I mean, he's only been doing this a short while and look where he is already. That's a gift.

Vote for him.

I was lucky enough to hear Paco play at a party in Barcelona last weeekend i gotta say he was sensational, i visit the city a lot but i have never seen a DJ rock the crowd like he did, the dancefloor was heaving and everyone i saw had huge grins on their faces. A large part of that goes down to this guy's energy and enthusiasm behind the decks, truly inspirational. It was one of the best clubbing experiences i have ever had, thank you Paco!!!!

WOW
What a great party with Paco!!!
He was simply awesome. As one of the organizers of the Bearcelona event, I always have to hear complaints from people about the DJs. Not this time. On the dance floor, people were telling me "wow, he's good" and a friend of mine who is a DJ told me that Paco was flawless technically. The day after, people came to me to say that he had been awesome - I'm quite proud of this because Paco was my personal bet for the event and I can but say that I nailed it with him.

He was also a real professional. He was on the club 2 hours before the event started to have everything ready. Most DJs working with us barely take 10-15 minutes to get used to the sound system. Paco even tuned it perfectly.

Seriously. I'm so proud of having had him at our event!

We were there when he started that night, and when the last song was played @ 5:30 in the morning, we were there among hundreds of other people clapping and cheering in a standing ovation. The music, the build up, the mixing, everything was top tier and perfect. Easily the best time I've ever had dancing at a club.

I've never much cared for dance music. Thought it was about the beat and nothing else, and I don't like just one element of music to stand out all the time. Paco explained to me the way he mixes music and selects songs based on how they relate to each other in terms of music theory, and how his instincts work that way, and I can hear it so much better now and understand why so many people are passionate about his DJ skills and mixes!

You're the best in this competition Paco, can't wait to hang with you in Orlando!
"Copper beat conducts our feet, Like a doodle beat skipping down the street, In 3D NYC
You can hold the bird, But the song she sings is really free"
That's exactly what you convey, Mr. Guerra, freedom. Freedom from the gay iconic standards we've all heard over, and over and over (from most of your competition no less), but you know they have their place, just not on every single beat. Thanks for mixing it up, keeping it fresh, and for keeping me excited about what you'll come up with next!
