The Center to Host ‘Dinner and Discussion’ on Hate Crimes
THE CENTER’S PUBLIC POLICY DEPARTMENT TO HOST SPECIAL DINNER AND DISCUSSION
Event Will Focus on Community Safety, Hate Crimes
Jan. 9, 2008 – SAN DIEGO – The Public Policy Department of The San Diego LGBT Community Center (The Center) will host a special dinner and discussion on hate incidents and hate crimes on Tues., Jan. 29. This free event, which includes dinner, will take place from 6-7:30pm at The Center, 3909 Centre St.
According to Caroline Dessert, coordinator of The Center’s Public Policy Department, this will be an opportunity to discuss the difference between hate crimes and hate incidents, and encourage community safety and reporting practices. Lt. Carolyn Kendrick, the San Diego Police Department’s LGBT community liaison, will also speak. Other topics will include the federal Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes Act, the FBI’s hate crimes reports and local hate incidents and crimes.
