At 19 years old, Colin Leahy auditioned for American Idol, comparing himself to season two runner up Clay Aiken. He didn’t make the cut, but his 15 minutes didn’t stop there. Now, the 23-year-old elementary school volunteer is facing jail time for allegedly propositioning students.
According to The New York Times, Leahy was accused of sending sexually explicit text messages to a 12-year-old student and propositioning a 10-year-old.
According to the Times, Leahy is charged with two counts of endangering a minor. The Times received a statement from the Brooklyn D.A.'s office.
During season three of the Fox reality show, Leahy audition, comparing himself to Clay Aiken, saying: “I like to make people happy and smile. I’m also a camp counselor.”
Ironically, the comparisons don’t stop there. Just a couple short years ago, Aiken too found himself at the center of a sex scandal when photos of the pop star appeared on Manhunt.com, with Aiken allegedly propositioning men for sex.
Also like Aiken, Idol judge Simon Cowell, naturally, hated Leahy. “Well, Colin, that is just about as bad as it can possibly get,” the judge said after a performance.
