Country music sensation and blonde beauty Carrie Underwood beat out the original American Idol Kelly Clarkson as America’s most popular Idol contestant.
The 2005 Idol winner Underwood has since nabbed Grammy, American Music, Billboard and Country Music Association Awards and won 54 percent of the vote for “most popular” Idol contestant in an AOL Television poll released Monday.
Pop and rock belter Clarkson, the first Idol winner in 2002, came in a distant second for most popular, pulling in only 26 percent of the vote.
Underwood, a relative newcomer to the professional country music scene, became the newest member of country music’s revered, Grand Ole Opry at an induction ceremony in Nashville, Tenn. May 10.
Final two contestants for the current season, David Archuleta and David Cook are in tied in a dead heat for favorite performance for the show's seventh season.
Archuleta's interpretation of John Lennon's "Imagine" in February was rated best of the season by 35 percent while Cook's Chris Cornell version of the Michael Jackson hit "Billie Jean" in March also pulled in 35 percent.
Meanwhile, dreadlocked Jason Castro, who got the boot two weeks ago, received the dubious honor of “Most Overrated” Idol contestant. His final Idol performance of the Bob Dylan classic, “Mr. Tambourine Man,” earned Castro the worst performance of the year nod.
