Martha Stewart’s daughter Alexis popped by Oprah on Thursday for a serious chat about her struggle to become a mom and, in the process, make her own famous maternal figure a proud grandma.
Forty-two years old and single after an earlier divorce from attorney John R. Cuti, who handled her mother’s divorce, the younger Stewart talked openly in the interview about spending nearly $30,000 a month in her quest to become pregnant on her own.
Stewart also discussed trying everything from visiting renowned specialists and taking cutting edge medications to investing in high-tech procedures like the costly intracytoplasmic sperm injections, which are a form of “in vitro fertilization” in her journey to conceive.
Alexis intimated during her Oprah appearance that the reason she came forth to talk about her own struggle to become pregnant was because she felt too many Hollywood types refused to talk about the difficulties of getting pregnant as you get older.
She also acknowledged that her domestic diva mother, Martha, had helped to underwrite the extremely high cost of helping her manifest her dream to mother a child.
Stewart currently co-hosts Whatever with Alexis & Jennifer on Sirius Satellite Radio, where irreverence and brutal honesty are hallmarks of the programs.
